Our app Online Connection Check (OCC) helps utilities reduce the strain on daily operations because it is designed as a self-service tool for hosting capacity evaluation. Embed an interactive network capacity map directly on your website and enable your customers to do the pre-application research for a suitable point of interconnection point on their own.

Utilities can configure multiple service areas, including distinct layers for secondary, primary, and transmission networks – even when responsibilities or geographic coverage differ. This is especially valuable if your utility also provides planning or grid analysis services for downstream or affiliated operators. With built-in logic for each service area, customers are automatically routed to the correct network and operator context – with no added effort on your end.

Step 1: Define location

Your customer specifies the location for the planned DER installation by either entering the exact address or selecting geo coordinates directly on the interactive map.

Step 2: Select asset type

By default, our tool includes photovoltaic, charging station, wind turbine or combined heat and power assets. Further assets that are unique to your supply area can also be added.

Step 3: Enter asset capacity

Lastly, your customer enters the capacity of the system they are planning to connect to your distribution network. The system recognizes automatically based on the previously defined asset type if it’s the generation or consumption capacity.

Multiple Service Areas? No Problem.

The Online Connection Check supports interconnection assessments across all voltage levels. This enables your customers to independently check potential interconnections – from secondary up to transmission – and be automatically directed to the correct service area.

The benefits are twofold: misrouted requests and lengthy follow-up communications are avoided. And instead of receiving generic error messages like “Your request falls outside the service area,” customers are guided to the right place from the start. A win-win for both sides.

Can the tool cover both low-voltage and medium-voltage grid?

Yes, absolutely, it can cover both. Your data are the engine behind the tool, and if you operate medium-voltage as well as low-voltage grids, then the tool will support both.

Can I integrate my own online application form with HCC?
Sure. Say, your customer has determined the best suitable connection point for them and without further ado, wants to submit an application for this point. You can couple the HCC with your own online application form so that the two steps are connected in a seamless workflow.
Our data quality might not be satisfactory. Does it then make sense to implement the app?

Yes, in the first project phase, we work closely with you to create an accurate digital twin of your entire grids. For this, you merge your data from multiple systems, with at least 95% of all data inconsistencies and gaps being eliminated step by step as a result. This data cleansing phase lasts on average 3-6 months. Afterward, we use this as a basis for a rapid implementation of the Connection Request app.
